Helpful Household Hints Can Aid Anyone

By: Sam Dillon

The current generation of young couples having children was most likely raised in a family where both parents worked outside of the home. This has certainly become very common place in our society. Most couples need to have two incomes in order to create the life style that they want to live. Also most women want to have a career or job so that they do not feel dependent on their partner for financial support. This is a great thing for women?s stability, however family life has changed a great deal and people are finding that there are many things that they did not learn to do from watching their mother?s, like the generations before them have.

Because there are many things that are learned in watching a woman whose main job is household duties, many people need to turn to advice columns and books to pick up helpful household hints that they did not learn from their mothers. There are entire television net works that are dedicated to providing helpful household hints in regards to cooking, cleaning and decorating. Many of the suggestions seem to be common sense to me, but then I was raised by a full time homemaker. I was taught helpful household hints on a daily basis as I helped around the house and yard. Today so many household chores are done on the run and after the children go to bed at night, so there is not a great deal of teaching that goes along with performing the household tasks.

Teaching people simple, effective and helpful household tasks has become a multi million dollar business. The book stores are full of publications, networks are filled with programming and the internet has multiple sites that are dedicated to giving people advice to help them around the house. It would be wonderful if the present generation would take the time to include their children in the process as they learn some of these hints that help make a household run better. Many things such as removing a stain from upholstery or carpet or substituting ingredients in a recipe or repairing a tear in fabric, are activities that can be done with the children watching or participating. I have found with my grandchildren that I will ask them to read me the instructions for a recipe that we are making together. This helps them become more confident in reading out loud and also gives them a lesson in what different cooking terms and techniques mean. Teaching helpful household hints can be a fun learning experience for children and are useful for them for the future.
