Usually, once you get the routine down, you can apply for all of the online jobs you want in about an hour or less every day. After that, however, you still have to go out and do the grunt work. Going in person to businesses shows people that you are dedicated, and many jobs don't hire over the Internet anyway.
The upside to this is that you can get your job resume to many more people at once than you used to be able to. If you post your resume on Monster, Career Builder, or any of the other popular job finding websites, thousands upon thousands of employers will have access to it. This means that, even if you can't get in touch with everyone hiring within your city, they might just get in touch with you. If you are web savvy, you will have an easier time finding your next job.
