These days, retro fashions are very much in with the younger crowd. As far as they're concerned, the older something looks, the cooler it must be. I guess that's why so many manufacturers are now producing garments labeled "broken in" or "distressed" -- and why those particular items fly off the shelves.
The retro look has even extended to formal wear, which is why vintage prom dresses are so popular right now. Back when I was in school, all the girls fought to get the very latest Jessica McClintock gowns, which had a very modern, trendy look. But I bet I'd see very few people dressed like that if I walked into a high school dance today. I'm sure most of the kids would be decked out in vintage prom dresses instead.
Since schools across the country will be having their formal spring dances very soon, almost every clothing store in the mall has vintage prom dresses and tuxedos on display right now. I was out shopping earlier today, and I decided to stop in and have a look at some of the gowns. I have to admit that they were actually far more stylish and attractive than I thought they would be! There were some truly stunning vintage prom dresses inspired by designs of the 1930s and 1940's that even I wouldn't mind wearing to my own formal occasions.
Once I came back home, I decided to keep looking at more vintage prom dresses online. Even though I had no immediate plans of buying one, I was still interested in seeing all of the different creations.
I found lots of clothing websites that focus almost exclusively on selling retro evening gowns. These sites had a variety of vintage prom dresses in styles from every decade dating back to the 1920s. I noticed that these online retailers stocked more sizes than the department stores at the mall, and the prices were a lot cheaper too. Plus, I saw that all of the websites had sizing charts to help customers get that perfect fit.
I have to admit that looking at all these vintage prom dresses made me a bit nostalgic for my own high school days. Obviously there's no going back for me, but at least I can still look forward to the time when my kids will go to their formal dances. I'm sure we'll have a blast shopping for their gowns and tuxedos!
