Botox is well known anti aging product. Can this botox be used for treating acne? What is the relationship between botox and acne? In February 2008 issue of Elle
Magazine, some dermatologists have made an interesting observation. They say
"Skin is noticeably clearer in botox treated areas."
Well, that means there is some co relationship in botox and acne. Let us try to find the possible scientific links between botox and acne.
What is the role of botox in facial rejuvenation? It relaxes certain muscles. It is well known that botox contains a neurotoxin protein. This is called as botulinium toxin type A. This chemical blocks the messages from the brain to the body parts. So if there is no message to the wrinkle producing muscle, it will stop working. In other words, there will be no more wrinkle production. You are actually paralyzing the muscle. When the messages to heart from brain are blocked, the person dies. We say that he was poisoned. The chemical in botox injections can work as poison also. If this chemical is injected in healthy and useful muscle, that healthy and useful muscle will also get paralyzed.
Why botox is used in injection form? It should NOT spread to other body parts.
This is the reason why botox must be taken strictly under medical supervision.
From this discussion, it will be obvious that if we paralyze acne producing muscles [glands, here] then we will get acne free face.
Is it possible to inject botox in acne producing glands?
But before answering this question, we will have to find reasons behind acne.
Why acne are formed at all? We have small pores on our facial skin. There are ducts which produce oil. This is called as sebum. If there is oil, then bacteria thrive there naturally. These bacteria will give you itching sensation if you try to rub it, the glands are stimulated to produce more oil. This in turn produces more bacteria. More bacteria mean more itching sensation. This cycle goes on giving you never ending acne filled face.
If the oil producing glands stop their work, then this cycle of acne can be broken easily. You can treat the bacteria for one time. Then as there will be no sebum, there will be no bacteria and no acne. Botox can paralyze the sebum producing oil glands and give relief from acne.
However there can be some problems in this. It is advisable to use botox only in upper two third part of the face. It is beyond the scope of this article to go in to risks involved. If you have best possible, highly educated, experienced doctor handling your case with botox, you will get success and acne free face. In near future botox will conquer acne completely.
