What Is A HDMI Switch?

By: Glen Jackson

HDMI or High Density Multimedia Interface is the latest in data transmission technology. This technology has enabled superior quality data transmission over longer distances possible. HDMI has also reduced the complexity of data transmission between two devices. Apart from this, the noticeable points about HDMI cables is that it has also led to lower cost of production because the signals are passed on only a single cable as against the traditional copper wires. Also the data losses have been reduced to almost nil which ensures high efficiency and far better quality than ever before. Because the losses are almost nil, ghosting effect and the disturbance in audio and video signals have also been reduced dramatically. Apart from this, the reduction in the complexity and the number of connections to be maintained has ensured that upgrading any existing system working on HDMI technology would be extremely easy and least time consuming.

A HDMI switch or switcher is also called a HDMI accessory for the reason that it enhances the functionality of the existing HDMI device. A switcher may be used when there are more than one input devices (i.e. devices from which the data will be transferred) to the digital monitor or screen. Generally, most of the HD screens have only one or two available HDMI ports. And of course, this is not usually enough if you are a gadget freak. A HD switcher can be used to get over any such restraint. There are several companies selling HD switchers today in the market. Amongst them Apple (which also sells HD switchers) can perhaps be trusted the most. They are selling their HD switcher under the brand name Xtreme HD HDMI Switcher. This Apple HD switcher can used to connect various devices like your satellite/cable tv box, Apple TV, gaming consoles, DVD players and all the other similar gadgets. You have to just connect these devices to the input ports of the Apple HD switcher. After connecting the input devices, you can connect the switcher to the digital screen using HDMI to HDMI connecting cables.

But what would you do if you suddenly want to connect to a different device? Well, the solution to that problem also exists and it is a remote control. You can make use of the IR remote control provided with the switcher box or use any other compatible remote control like a universal remote control to easily and swiftly change between different devices. And you can trust Apple to use the best quality stuff available in the market and thus, it delivers highest quality sound and pictures.
