What Is A Java Test?

By: Spencer McNight

What is a Java Test? In the word of Java technologies, the Java Test has something to do as a harness agent, so it commonly called as the Java Test Harness Agent. What does this agent does? The Java Test Harness Agent acts as separate program that functions in conjunction with the Java Test Harness in running tests on systems aside from the ones that are currently running already in the Java Test Harness. The Java Test Harness Agent can be customized accordingly to your requirement when running the tests. When we say customized, it means that the Java Test Harness Agent can be configured and run with the preferences you have set in running.

The features of Java Test Harness Agent depend on your test suites as most of the agents are usually used in running tests on mostly small devices that do not support any help from online. Among the features of Java Test Harness Agent include being a multiple user, having supported user interfaces such as applets, command-line interface and Agent GUI, having configurable modes that can be run in serial, passive or active modes, and monitoring all tests that are monitored and run in the Agent GUI.

Before using the Java Test Harness Agent, you need to load the agent classes onto your test system. In doing so, you need to accomplish the following: extract the minimum group of classes from the file of javatest.jar for all the types of the agent user interfaces and then copy them onto the system; and secondly, you need to copy directly the file of javatest.jar onto the test system in any case that there is adequate space available.

Java Test Harness Agent require you must check for those lightweight programs that are compatible with the Java Development Kit or the JDK with version 1.1 as this kit uses a serial connection of bi-directional that supports both the protocols of RS-232 and TCP/IP in communicating between the Java Test Harness and the test system. However, you may use any provided agent by the Java Test Harness if your computer system has the following requirements: if the device is able to have the agent classes loaded in it and if the device supports a layer of communication that can even last any durations of the tests that are usually in several minutes. Apparently, the type of Java Test Harness Agent that you can use still depends on the protocol of communication being used between the Java Test Harness and test system as well as with the initial connection made between the Java Test Harness and the initial connection.
