What could have been the widely-used scripting language when it comes to web development? It’s none other than the JavaScript. The term "JavaScript" was derived from the original language of ECMAScript, which had been the standard scripting language in the early times. JavaScript had been a scripting language that comes with first-class, prototype-based, weakly typed and dynamic functions. These could have the features that made JavaScript as popularly used by web developers.
The scripting language of JavaScript was developed for easier used of the non-programmers. This language was influenced and designed by plenty of languages as well as having some similarities on the physical attributes of Java programming language. The client-based websites are the ones that mostly used JavaScript as it easily adapt on the language. The JavaScript also helps enable the scripting access to embedded objects in some other applications. Also, the principles of designs of the JavaScript were derived from Java’s programming language.
Technically, the JavaScript scripting language is far different from the Java programming language. It is essentially unrelated to Java though they both use the same C syntax as well as Java naming conventions. With the co-marketing deal between the Sun Microsystems and Netscape Navigator, the scripting language was named as the "LiveScript". Netscape Navigator had agreed to bundle the Java runtime of Sun Microsystems with their browser. During the time, the Netscape Navigator was the dominant web browser before Internet Explorer comes in. From the time that JavaScript was released, Java technologies had been a trademark of the Sun Microsystems. Also the JavaScript was put under license for implementation by the Netscape Communications as well as with other entities including the Mozilla Foundation.
Brendan Eich had originally created the JavaScript. He was from the Netscape Communications. Before the JavaScript was named as "LiveScript", its’ original name was "Mocha". The conversion of name from "LiveScript" to "JavaScript" was a coincidence when the Netscape Communications extended their support for the Java technologies of Sun Microsystems whereas these technologies were used in web browser of the Netscape.
The JavaScript was formally launched and implemented in the web browser of the Netscape in December 1995. However, the Microsoft had changed the label name of JavaScript into JScript to avoid trademark issues with Sun Microsystems. The JScript was first supported in the version 3 web browser of Internet Explorer. This was released in August 1996 and was included with the compliant date functions of the Y2K.
