Police Shooting Is Very Common

By: Brett Franklin

The common type of gun used by law enforcement is a handgun. The handgun is much easier to wear around the belt of the officer’s attire. However, a shotgun is used in special circumstances such a combat weapon in a difficult situation. In many countries, the shotgun has become the standard gun that is used. The shotgun is much more difficult to carry around, but it is much more intimidating than a handgun. They also make it easier to hit a moving target. A quality shotgun is not as expensive as a handgun is. Shotguns are also not as regulated as a normal handgun. This is the reason that law enforcement officers are usually seen with a handgun more often than a normal citizen. There are also situations when a law enforcement officer has to use a less harmful weapon, such as tasers and tear gas. Shotguns come in a variety of styles, depending on how much damage that needs to be done.

The name given for the shotgun ammunition varies from location to location. In the US, the appropriate term is "shotgun shells", while in the UK the correct term is "cartridges". Once the bullets are shot from the shotgun, they separate making it easier to hit smaller targets. Because the shotgun is an excellent weapon for long range targets, law enforcement officers opt for this type of firearm. For a large crowd that needs serious riot enforcement, police are forced to use "riot shotguns". The bullets used in riot shotguns are not real ammunition. Instead, the rounds are filled with non-lethal substances, such as rubber or small bean bags.

However, the shotgun is not always effective when hitting a close target. They are much more capable of hitting a long range target. In the police force, a threat may be closer to the officer.

Therefore, if a shotgun is used, the officer will have to aim with more care as opposed to a handgun. It also takes longer to get the shotgun in position before the shooter can take an action. A handgun is very simple to point, shoot, and aim. Another reason that the handgun is often more preferred among police officials is the fact that the handgun bullets do much more damage. Since the shotgun bullets spread after leaving the barrel, they are made to cause more harm they spread apart farther. If a shotgun is used to for up-close targets, the would will not be as severe.
