Practical shooting has become widely popular throughout much of the world. There have been numerous competitions hosted for practical shooting as well as target courses designed. For the amateur shooter who wants to advance in the hobby, a practical shooting training academy is the perfect option. Popular techniques have been introduced for practical shooting. The Modern Technique is the most well known. It is when the shooter uses two hands to hold the pistol. They then bring the firearm to their eye level so that the target can be aimed appropriately.
Jeff Cooper introduced the Modern Technique for practical shooting to help shooters aim more accurately. Cooper has taught many people techniques for practical shooting, including members of the military. Cooper requested that his former students that were in combat and used his Modern Technique, to report back to them about how he can improve the technique for future students. Jeff Cooper enforces the idea with his students that being ready for an attack is very important. His train of thought is that it does not matter what type of gun you use or what stance you perform in, if you are caught off guard in an attack it will not matter.
To help others learn the skill of practical shooting, "The Practical Shooting Academy, Inc." was formed. The academy was started in 1989 to provide the most modern practical shooting available. Individuals attend the academy to gain training skills for their hobby. Representatives from organizations and other agencies also attend the academy so that they can bring back newly learned skills to their clients.
The Practical Shooting Academy, Inc. has worked with SWAT of law enforcement agencies, police officials and military officers. The Practical Shooting Academy took on their hardest job of all after the terrorist events of 9/11. They worked with the trainers of the Air Marshal Program to help them learn self-defense shooting techniques. Also after the events of 9/11, the Academy was requested to teach the US Secret Service members new skills to protect the President of the United States from a terrorist attack. There is more that goes into training for military and police forces than just learning about how to fight or track down a predator. Practical shooting is the basis for all types of self-defense situations. Without this formal training, our police forces and military would not be able to protect our country.
