Shooting Sports Are Very Popular |

Shooting sports can best be defined as any sport that test accuracy and speed elements of firearms and air guns in a competitive setting. Air gun sections include archery and other similar segments that require the use of a bow and arrow combination. Equipment used and targets sought after are the two classifications of what shooting sport a fire arm or air gun falls into.
At the top of the shooting sports list is the riffle shooting competitions. This section consists of anything that maintains a stationary target shooting distance of 10, 50 or 300 meters in length. Overall, there are four riffle shooting sports events. Two of these are part of the Olympic Games. Moving targets located at 10 and 50 meter distances are the focus of running target riffle shooting sports.
By far the most demanding riffle shooting sports segment in terms of equipment use is the bench rest. Here, the gun man rests a rifle on a table placed in front of him or her. The intended target is small groups that move about. The gun man remains seated in a chair during the execution of the sport. Another riffle shooting sports activity is full bore target shooting. The gunman aims at movable targets in the 300 - 1200 yard distance range.
The next category of shooting sports involves the use of hand guns. One of the most widely popular aspects of this category is the clay shooting target segment. Clay targets are released from a machine into the air. Shooters aim towards the targets with the desired hand gun. Similar to skeet shooting, clay target shooting provides more variations on targets. Shooters are made aware at each of the five stations how many targets are available by a card placement system.
Action shooting is a division of shooting sports that features non-traditional, rapid movement shooting activities. Virtually every shooting activity begins with the need to draw a gun from a holster before firing. Popular versions of this division include practical pistol that is practiced by the United States Practical Shooting Association. Others include the ’three gun’ and cowboy action shooting events.
The main focus of any action shooting activity is speed and accuracy in terms of shooting the handgun. The less movement needed to remove the hand gun from the holster before firing the better. A prime example of this is the National Rifle Association’s Action Pistol event known as the Bianchi Cup. The winning element here is shot accuracy versus speed elements.
