The equipment used when snowboarding is important. Although, it is out on the snow, people still think that there is no why you can get hurt. The truth is, when you are snowboarding down a mountain at a ridiculous speed and you suddenly lose control, it will feel like hitting concrete on a skateboard. The injuries can be severe, and if you don’t want to suffer from a broken neck or dislocated shoulder, it is recommended that you pay attention to the following.
The main equipment you need is the board, boots and helmet. A beginner’s board should have a beveled edge, so the edges of the board don’t catch the surface of the snow easily. Also, the board needs to be a little flexible and have a kind of hourglass shape. This makes it easier to turn.
The boots are very important. You have to make sure that these move with your feet. Remember, the boots will always be in contact with your board and you are manipulating the board with your boot. If you find your feet moving freely inside the boot, this does not translate the movement of the board, and that can be dangerous especially when dodging obstacles. Make sure you have the proper boots.
Boots should be close-fitting from the toe to the heel. For instance, when you are on the board and your lift your heel, it should not move inside the boot. It should move with the boot. No spaces should occur in the boots when making any movements with your feet. When the boots are pinned to the board, you should not be able to move your foot or ankle. Boots that are loose can cause unimaginable problems, especially women wearing men’s boots, because their feet are narrower.
Purchasing or renting boots that have form-molding foam can solve many problems. The foam is part of your boot, and this means when you lift your heel, it catches the foam and your boot lifts. If you are not happy with your purchase or your rental, don’t leave until you are. A small thing like this could be the difference between controlling the board and not controlling the board.
A helmet that offers great visibility, doesn’t obscure your peripheries or blocks noises and sounds is important. You have to know what is going on behind you and hear what is closing in from your sides. Some helmets are designed to crack on impact and this prevents your head from cracking.
