For so many women all over the world, stretch marks and wrinkles are a constant cause of worry. Not only do they look unsightly, but wrinkles in particular, can be a sign of another health condition like poor nutrition and other medical conditions. There are so many creams available that apparently prevent or remove them, and these can be costly. There are also surgical routes that you can choose to take, but again, these are costly. Not only that, but there is often no guarantee that they will work and can actually do more harm than good.
Before you start to think about removing or preventing stretch marks and wrinkles, you must first look at why they appear, what causes them, and what they are a sign of. Once you have recognized what causes them, then you can go about attempting to prevent them and also trying to remove them if the process has already started.
When looking at stretch marks and wrinkles, learning how they are caused starts with the state of the skin. Over the years, your skin becomes more and more damaged and as you age, it is unable to repair itself. However, certain lifestyle choices you make at an early age can have a negative effect on the state of your skin. Smoking is well known for increasing the visibility of wrinkles. The same applies to excessive alcohol consumption and poor nutrition in your diet. Stress and poor sleeping patterns are all main culprits for wrinkles. But what causes stretch marks?
When the skin is damaged and is unable to repair itself, it loses it’s elasticity. The elastin and the collagen in the skin cells are massively reduced and it loses its suppleness and cannot reguvenate. Excessive stretching of the skin can cause stretch marks, especially in the cases of weight loss or gain, and most specific, during pregnancy. The marks actually start further off down the skin layers, but because it is thinned, it shows through to the epidermis, which is the top layer of skin.
Some people get stretch marks because they are heriditary. That’s not to say they won’t happen if your Mum has never had them, and vice versa. If your skin is dryer, and this tends to run in families, then you are at a greater risk of getting stretch marks and wrinkles, and some skin just doesn’t have as much elasticity as other peoples skin. Some people get them during pregnancy, some don’t. It’s just one of those things thatcan and will happen for any reason.
Both men and women are prone to stretch marks and wrinkles. It is not something that is specific to one gender. A women may get them through pregnancy, but a man will ge them if he participates in great weight training for a prolonged period of time. There are creams and such like that you can use to moisturize the skin and this can help fight against stretch marks and wrinkles, but in the main case, there is very little you can actually do about them. The good news is, once they have appeared, they tend to fade from strong purple or pink lines to silvery coloured lines that are more difficult to spot.
