Direct Mailing With A Printed Postcard

By: Dustin Cannon

Using a printed postcard is one of the best ways to increase response rates. A printed postcard is cheaper to make and cheaper to mail than other direct mailings. Response rates are higher than many other types of marketing, at times even surpassing broadcast media.

When marketing with a printed postcard, plan the campaign as a series. One mailing probably won't do a lot for your referral base, but repeated mailings put your name in front of clients. Some companies use a printed postcard campaign once a month, while others use it seasonally. What works for you will depend primarily on the type of business you are advertising.

An effective way to use a printed postcard for advertising is to design it in a way that encourages the customer to keep it. Some send a printed postcard as a refrigerator magnet, figuring everybody uses them. Others put information on the printed postcard that they feel the client will find valuable. One more idea is to use a printed postcard as a coupon or discount card.

A printed postcard doesn't have a lot of room, so you need to write a compelling message in few words. Make sure the customer gets the point of the message, and ask for action. The action could be anything from taking a survey to calling or visiting your website or just returning the printed postcard with a request for more information.

A printed postcard is the most cost effective way to gain client referrals. Use the above tips and research to find others. If you design the right printed postcard, you should see your customer list grow.
