Why Not! Online degrees are the best options available to working professionals like you! There a number of online degrees that you can take up, whether it is to boost your professional prospects or learn something new. Whatever be your objective, choose your online degree choose with little bit of caution is what all I have to say!

You get a Professional Online Degrees, but would your employer accept it? Can you really enjoy a boost in your salary if you are armed with the online degree you have earned? Can you win a promotion? Do Online degree program you select for yourself is going to upgrade your career? Try to get answers to these questions before you choose an online degree for yourself.

Always opt for accredited online degree programs by a reputed online college /university. Unless the degree courses you choose are accredited online degree programs, they are not going to be accepted by most of the employers.

Accreditation

Accreditation is the most important factor to consider when you are thinking of online degrees. US Department of Education states that accreditation is important as it:

Is a seal of verification that a college or university meets established standards?

It helps students in identifying online degree programs that are accepted by employers.

With the advent of Diploma Mills and their fraudulent activities it is a must for students to check the accreditation in order to avoid future disappointments.

Related research shows that recognized institutions with accredited online degree programs carry more weight with employers than such degrees awarded by less reputed schools.

Two Types of Accreditation

There are two types of accreditation available for the online degree programs: institutional and specialized. The most important institutional accreditation in the U.S. comes from one of six regional accrediting associations (Middle States, New England, North Central, Northwest, Southern, Western). These associations grant membership to all regionally accredited educational institutions (including Harvard, Princeton and Yale), and acknowledge one another's accreditation.

A specialized accrediting body evaluates particular units, schools, or programs including the Online Education Degree programs within an institution. Specialized accreditation, also called program accreditation, is often associated with national professional associations such as those for engineering, medicine, and law, or with specific disciplines such as business, teacher education, psychology, or social work.

So, before you decide to go for an online degree program, try to find whether it has accreditation from a recognized university or a professional association of repute.
